As someone who likes to be creative in the kitchen, I’ve always been skeptical when it comes to ingredient and recipe meal kits simply because I was worried they would stifle my creativity. The first few services that I tried (which I prefer not to name cuz that’s not how I roll) were okay, but I found the recipes to be a bit boring and that I could have made a better version of the meals on my own. But when someone offered me a free trial of Green Chef, I thought I’d give it a shot. Especially since becoming a working Mom, I have WAY less time to meal prep, shop for ingredients, let alone cook. Green Chef does all the work for you and they do a really good job. The menu changes week to week, and in the few months that I’ve been trying it, I have not seen a dish repeated yet. You can chose from Omnivore, Paleo, Gluten-free, Carnivore, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Keto options–so there is literally something for everyone. Here is a preview of some of the options for an upcoming week, I’m thinking I may need to unskip my order:
The first thing that appealed to me about Green Chef was how unique and creative sounding the entrees were. These are not your run of the mill weeknight meals. The recipes include such meals as Tarragon chicken with garbanzo mashed potatoes and swiss chard and mushrooms or Tamarind Lamb Samosas. Feasible to come up with on my own, but also sound a bit daunting. I also wouldn’t know what to do with a whole head of swiss chard and it would likely go bad in my fridge, so by using the portioned amount for the recipe I am creating less waste. Although I found that I really do like swiss chard, so I plan on using it in some upcoming recipes.
Here is a dinner I made just last night: Salmon with tzatziki, savory cremini mushrooms & chard crepes. This was my first time making savory crepes and they were surprisingly easy! I will definitely be incorporating them into future dishes now that I have a easy and delicious recipe.
The second thing I love about Green Chef is that they seemed to have thought of everything. EVERYTHING. All the ingredients you would need some perfectly packaged in individual color-coded and labelled baggies or containers. Here is a picture of one of my recent deliveries. All fresh, perfectly packaged, and USDA organic! I mean they even included tiny squares of butter and milk that I needed for one of the recipes!
Another thing I love is the recipe cards. They list all the ingredients and the needed proportions, which is great because if you like the recipe, you can make it again on your own (so far I have yet to not like a recipe!) They also include calories and whether the meal is appropriate for someone with dietary restrictions. The instructions are detailed, mom-proof and also include pictures.
Finally, I love that you can customize each delivery and the items you get. There is no minimum requirement to buy, you can skip as many or as little weeks as you want. You can also change between the dietary choices, so one week you can eat paleo, the next you can try vegan options if you like (Although prices do vary a little between the choices). I have tried the omnivore and gluten-free options thus far, but all of them always sound appealing.
If you’d like to try Green Chef for yourself, comment below or email me. I have two free trials to give, and $25 off for anyone else interested in trying. You can also follow my link here.
